Army officials have identified a Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson soldier Wednesday who was found dead early Tuesday morning on base from a single gunshot wound.
U.S. Army Alaska spokesperson Lt. Col. Bill Coppernoll says Pfc. Grant W. Wise, 25, was found in another soldier's barracks room and declared dead at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Wise, from Fairport, N.Y.,joined the Army in October 2011. He was assigned to the Anchorage-based 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division as an infantryman in September.
The incident is under investigation by the post's U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Detachment, the Army agency responsible for investigating all on-post deaths.
Coppernoll couldn't say Tuesday how Wise was shot, and said Wednesday that the incident remains under investigation.
Wise's next of kin have been notified.
