A 33-year-old Kodiak man has pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and hindering prosecution.

Joshua Erickson will be sentenced Feb. 5 in the beating death of Darrell Cavaness in January 2008.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports Erickson entered the plea last week in Anchorage before Superior Court Judge Fred Torrisi as part of deal with prosecutors.

A second man was convicted in the case. Thirty-three-year-old Chawn Summerall was convicted in 2010 of felony assault and sentenced to 20 years in prison with nine suspended.

Cavaness was found unconscious and bleeding at a Kodiak apartment. He died a week later.

Kodiak Police Chief T.C. Kamai says the case involved a tremendous amount of physical evidence and took a long time to solve.
