A 22-year-old Anchorage man who mowed down two people with his pickup truck on a downtown street early New Year's Day has pleaded guilty to felony assault and driving under the influence.
Tex Daniels II will be sentenced in August.
Prosecutors say a couple, Ashley Brotherton and Clayton Wilbanks , were walking home from a New Year's Eve concert when Daniels lost control of his pickup while passing another vehicle.
He slammed into the couple from behind. Witnesses told police he tried to drive away but they held him until officers arrived.
Brotherton, a special education teacher, suffered a broken neck, skull fractures and brain swelling. Wilbanks suffered a broken nose and a lacerated scalp and spleen.
