Fairbanks militia member Schaeffer Cox has filed his intent to appeal his conviction and sentence in federal court.

According to documents filed since his Tuesday sentencing, Cox intends to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, and his lawyer has asked to withdraw from his case.

Cox was sentenced to nearly 26 years Tuesday, after being convicted of numerous federal charges, including conspiracy to murder federal officials and possessing illegal weapons.

That same day, Cox filed a document in court with his intent to appeal.

He has requested that all filing fees be waived because he does not have the funds to pay for them.

Peter Camiel, Cox's attorney, filed the following day to withdraw as Cox's counsel. Camiel has represented Cox since July of 2012 in the case that has been ongoing since early 2011.

Camiel cited the possibility of being called as a witness in future proceedings as one reason to withdraw. His filing says Cox agreed that new counsel for his appeal would be appropriate.
