The mother of a Barrow child who died after being beaten has been arrested.

Anchorage police say 28-year-old Esther Edwards-Gust was arrested on a warrant issued from Barrow on Monday. She is charged with two counts of felony assault.

Her boyfriend, 28-year-old Richard Tilden Jr., also has been charged.

The Anchorage Daily News says court records say that Edwards-Gust is a public school teacher in Barrow.

She was released from jail after being arrested. Tilden remains in the Barrow jail on $100,000 bail.

Edward-Gust's 3-year-old child died on Saturday. A 1-year-old baby who also was beaten remains hospitalized at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
