According to APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker, the incident began at about 8 a.m. when a neighbor of a house on the 10400 block of Sidorof Lane saw a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with a snorkel stop there and drop off two men. He thought the situation looked suspicious, so he followed the truck and called in its license plate to police.
When the two men tried to meet up with the truck, the homeowner held one of them until officers showed up to detain him, as the other ran away on foot. Parker says the homeowner was apparently unarmed at the time.
"He was just able to hold on to (him)," Parker said. "He had a persuasive manner."
The suspect held by the homeowner, 20-year-old Devin Osborne, was subsequently arrested on one count of burglary and two counts of second-degree theft related to a separate Feb. 12 burglary on Scarborough Drive involving thousands of dollars in stolen goods.
Parker says the truck driver drove away, but was stopped by officers who had its license-plate number. The driver was detained and questioned, then released pending further investigation.
APD is searching for the man who fled on foot, and says he got a ride from a neighbor unaware of the situation. Parker didn’t provide a description of him, but said he was familiar to officers.
“We know who he is,” Parker said.
Officials believe the suspects may have committed other burglaries.
