Anchorage police have released more information about a home-invasion robbery Thursday at a Mountain View apartment, in which two armed men still sought by police struck a woman on the head before fleeing the scene.
APD spokesperson Dani Myren says neither of the two suspects -- a light-skinned man believed to be armed with a handgun, and a dark-skinned man who “was brandishing what appeared to be a long gun” -- are not in custody, although investigation of the case continues.
Police responded at about 2:25 p.m. Thursday to the home-invasion robbery, at an apartment complex on the 800 block of North Bliss Street. Investigators found a woman who had been hit and suffered what Myren described as a non-life-threatening “lump” on her head, which medics were called to the apartment to evaluate. A cellphone, some jewelry and a small amount of cash were all missing from the apartment.
Myren says the men departed the scene after the robbery, although it’s not yet clear whether they ran away or had a ride.
“There is some evidence to indicate the suspects left in a vehicle,” Myren said.
Nearly a dozen APD units subsequently converged on the Downtown area in a search for the men. One vehicle was pulled over and initially believed to contain the robbery suspects, before police learned that wasn’t the case -- although they ended up making an unrelated misdemeanor warrant arrest on one of the people inside.
Myren refused to say where the search occurred and precisely how long it went on for, but did note that the call on the case was closed at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
