Police in a small Southeast Alaska town are investigating arrow attacks that killed one dog and wounded another in a neighborhood where three other dogs went missing last fall.
Haines police initially offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the shooter of the 30-inch arrows. The reward has since grown to almost $800 as outraged residents in the community of 1,800 donate their own funds.
Shannon Thompson, who owns the dogs with her boyfriend, says 9-year-old Foxy died in surgery after spending a night out missing. The boxer-dachshund mix came home the next day with the arrow still stuck in its back through its chest.
Thompson's 1-year-old lab and rat terrier mix, Maple, was struck in the head, but is on the mend.

This just happened to my brother who lives on Knik-goosebay road as well. two days ago his little 3# miniature poodle? got away from him as he was getting out to go to work. The dog was found later in the day by some neighbors with an arrow stuck through his backside, through his front shoulder, alive. The poor thing couldn't move obviously. They took him to the vet and unable to identify the dog, put him to sleep. A 12 year old neighbor boy is suspect. After he goes to trial, he'll most likely get a slap on the wrist like so many other criminals here in the Matanuska Valley.
