A 45-year-old man accused of shooting a Walmart manager appeared in court Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Pirtle, a double amputee, allegedly shot 33-year-old Jason Mahi, store manager, in the midsection Saturday afternoon over a dispute of Pirtle’s unleashed service dog in the midtown Walmart, according to charging documents.

Court papers revealed that Anchorage police officers found two pistols on Pirtle after he was arrested and also said that he admitted to shooting Mahi during an interview with detectives.

Pirtle faces one count of assault in the first degree, a felony crime, and one count of misconduct involving weapons in the fourth degree. On the felony charge, he faces up to 20 years behind bars and a maximum fine of $250,000.

Pirtle has no known criminal convictions in the state and his bail was set at $50,000 and a third party custodian.
