A dramatic rescue took place in Valdez over the weekend, according to Valdez officials.
The fire chief and emergency manager for Valdez says two brothers were hiking on the Worthington glacier when one fell in.
The fire department, Glennallen troopers are well as a group of volunteers responded to the rescue.
Valdez fire chief George Keeney says three rescuers had to rappel into a crevasse on the glacier to reach the 16-year-old victim.
Once they reached him, they say he was conscious, but as hypothermia set in, he became semi-conscious.
Keeney said it was very difficult to free the young man, and that he had to wait five hours before he could be freed.
A helicopter was in the area to help transport the victim, but because of weather conditions, he was taken by ambulance to the Valdez hospital.
At last word, the young man was in guarded condition at Providence hospital in Anchorage.
