A federal study that reviewed the science behind large-scale mining in Bristol Bay is going to get more scrutiny.
The Environmental Protection Agency in May released a draft report that found large-scale mining near the headwaters of Bristol Bay could hurt the productivity and sustainability of one of the world's premier salmon fisheries.
Members of a peer review panel that looked at the draft have identified concerns, including the need for a clearer overall objective of the report. The EPA on Friday released both positive and negative comments from the panelists.
The EPA said it will revise the draft to address concerns.
The agency said another group of outside experts will then be brought in to review the revised draft, which will be incorporated into the final document.
