A 63-year-old man was found dead Saturday by a self-inflicted gun wound at the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, according to campus police.

UAF Police Chief Sean McGee said Tschon Ombadykow, a former worker at the UAF campus facilities division, was found in a library study room around 1 p.m. after a library patron reported someone who appeared to be sleeping.

Mike Sfraga, UAF Vice Chancellor for University and Student Advancement, issued a campus alert stating there were no other injuries and that the university has a low incidence of violence.

Campus police said the gun was found on scene, there were no signs of foul play, and his body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for review.

“I would encourage everyone in the community if you were to be made aware that somebody was making allegations of intent on harming themselves by all means, call a crisis line, contact law enforcement, and get the person the help that they need,” Chief McGee said.
