A Fairbanks man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after authorities said he fatally punched his girlfriend at a homeless camp.
Prosecutor Scott Mattern tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that sentencing guidelines suggest a prison term of seven to 11 years for 57-year-old Rick Allen. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May.
Authorities say Allen's girlfriend, Ellen Florence Juneby Rada, was found unconscious June 28 and died more than a week later of a brain hemorrhage. Court documents say Allen told Fairbanks police he punched and choked Rada and threatened to kill her.
Allen has a history of minor alcohol offenses, but the manslaughter is his first felony conviction.
