ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
The roof of a midtown church was damaged in an overnight Friday fire, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.Crews responded to blaze around 12:15 a.m. at the First Christian Methodist Episocpal Church at the 3600 Macinnes Street.
It took about an hour to control and crews remained on scene for a few hours.
“We were able to put up heavy flow streams and get a good knock down on the fire and kept it from advancing throughout the building,” Capt. Jeff Hoke, Anchorage Fire Department, said.
AFD went inside the church to salvage as much of the interior possessions as possible.
“The roof is caved in due to the heavy fire prior to our arrival, but the wings around the building have not been damaged and no fire has spread to those wings,” Capt. Hoke, AFD, said.
No word on how much damage was done or cause of fire and the investigation is ongoing.
