Food poisoning was the cause of an apparent hazardous-materials incident last week at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport’s FedEx sorting facility that sickened four people, company officials said Monday.

After the four employees complained they were feeling ill, the company says it evacuated the facility and called in emergency crews “out of an abundance of caution.”

After several tests, responding personnel determined that carbon monoxide poisoning was not what caused the workers to feel sick. FedEx says the sorting facility was up and running again within hours of the incident.
