GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—
Despite evening events and activities being cancelled due to weather, the school board for Grand Rapids Public Schools still met Tuesday night. On the agenda, first readings for six procedural policies for board members and the way meetings are conducted, but no mention of how the search was going for a new superintendent.
Two weeks ago, GRPS veteran Teresa Neal stepped in to be interim superintendent after Dr. Bernard Taylor was granted a leave of absence for his last six months with the district.
Neal has been very busy since taking on the position, she said.
“It’s been going really good. Actually, I have not had a lot of sleep, but it’s been going really good. People are coming up, they are sharing information, they’ve been very open, very willing to talk to me, so it’s been great.” Neal said.
“The board of education is super excited right now to be in a place where we are receiving an overwhelming response, receiving positive feedback regarding Superintendent Neal, we’re so happy to have her on board, she’s doing well.” Board President Senita Lenear told FOX 17 News.
Next week, Lenear said that a search firm to help hire a superintendent will be selected. The district hopes to have a new superintendent hired by summer, so they can get acclimated to the district, Lenear added.
Neal has received a lot of feedback from the community about her performance and also about what they want to see in the next superintendent.
