Amanda Lawton, the woman crushed by a huge chunk of falling ice on the Seward Highway back in April, is still recovering from her injuries that sent her to the hospital in critical condition.
A Facebook page set up by her friends says that she has been relearning how to walk. Somedays even eight steps can be a struggle.
She's now at a hospital in Boston, but thousands of miles away, her friends hope to help with her medical bills by putting on a benefit Saturday in Indian.
The benefit begins with a softball game at 1 p.m. at the ballfield across from the Brown Bear Saloon in Indian, followed by live music at the saloon until the early hours of the morning. At both events, there will be opportunities for people to donate to Amanda's medical bill fund.
"One good thing that's come out of this terrible accident is the community support and cohesion of a small community helping eachother out," said Hope Jeska, Amanda's friend.
