If you’re looking to go to the Social Security office in Anchorage, then expect a slightly shorter window.
The public office is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, which was a reduction of 30 minutes each weekday. Also, starting January 2, 2013, the office will close to the public at noon every Wednesday.
The agency said due to reduced funding by Congress that it was “impossible for the agency to provide the overtime needed to handle service to the public as it has done in the past.”
This month, the regional Social Security office announced that the changes that went into effect Nov. 19.
Agency employees will continue to work regular hours, but the shorter public window will allow them to complete face to face interviews and process claims work without incurring overtime.
The office said most Social Security services do not require a visit to the office.
