SALTON CITY: Drunken driver reported

The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a drunken driver who drove into a garage on Mullet Street Sunday afternoon. He was found lying in the front yard, according to Imperial County sheriff’s logs. The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Highway Patrol.

HOLTVILLE: Car burglarized

A white Chrysler PT Cruiser was broken into between 7 p.m. Saturday and 6:50 a.m. Sunday on Holt Avenue, according to Imperial County sheriff’s logs. Items taken included an iPod, CDs and some jewelry.

Burglary reported

Imperial County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary on Walnut Avenue about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The front door to the residence was open but nothing appeared to be missing. The door was possibly propped open by the wind, according to sheriff’s logs.

IMPERIAL COUNTY: Illegal immigrants convicted

Five men arrested by El Centro Sector Border Patrol for illegal re-entry into the U.S. have been successfully convicted and sentenced, according to a press release.

All the arrests occurred earlier this year near Calexico, El Centro and Indio, and many of the men have extensive criminal histories.

Raul Merino-Pais and Omar Hugo Velasquez-Morales were both sentenced to a year in federal prison while Amado Virgen-Perez and Salvador Arellano-Lujano were both sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Hermelando Torres-Galvan was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison.

All the men will be deported to their country of origin after serving their prison sentences.

IMPERIAL : Mom: Juvenile was molested

A woman alleged her 12-year-old son was sexually molested by a 31-year-old Holtville man during the summer.

The incident was reported Sunday afternoon, according to Imperial police call logs which note the woman alleged the molestation occurred sometime in July or August by a man who no longer visits the residence.

Officers responded to a welfare check Sunday night, and a report was taken and forwarded to Imperial police detectives for further investigation.

EL CENTRO : Pedestrian hit near Harding

A 55-year-old woman suffered a laceration to her head after being struck by a vehicle Monday morning near Harding Elementary School. 

The woman, a school employee, was struck shortly before 8 a.m. near Eighth Street and Wensley Avenue, said Cmdr. Jeff Mason. The woman was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment, “and luckily she didn’t suffer other injuries other than the cut,” he said.

The pedestrian was struck by a female motorist who was dropping her child at the school, said Mason. The motorist reported that because of a sun glare she couldn’t see the pedestrian.
