A Juneau veterans group is appealing a decision that will allow an indoor shooting range at a proposed gun shop.
KTOO reports Juneau Veterans for Peace is appealing the permit. The gun shop owners plan to allow customers to shoot automatic weapons while supervised by store employees.
The planning commission recently approved the conditional use permit. But Phil Smith, president of the veterans group, says city officials didn't thoroughly review it.
The store, Juneau Mercantile and Armory, is co-owned by planning commission member Dan Miller. He recused himself from deliberations on the permit.
Juneau Deputy Community Development Director Greg Chaney says the permit didn't generate much concern from other departments, including the police.
The appeal is before the Juneau Assembly on Monday.
