A jury has found Philip Floor guilty of manslaughter and evidence tampering in the 2010 beating death of 23-year-old Harvey “Charley” Albright, after more than a day of deliberations. He was found not guilty of second-degree murder.

Floor, 25, along with two other defendants -- Kenneth Upton and Carl Leedom -- were initially charged in the case in September 2010. Leedom faces additional charges including first-degree murder and several counts of misconduct involving controlled substances.

Investigators believe Floor, Upton and Leedom confronted Albright at Upton’s Eagle River home over a stolen backpack containing cash and other items, then began to beat and pistol-whip him “to teach him a lesson,” according to charging documents. After the assault, Floor and Leedom allegedly dumped Albright’s body at a riverbank in the Palmer area.

Last week, prosecutors at Floor’s trial played a video of his interview with Anchorage police, in which he described loading Albright’s body in his truck and dumping it. Albright’s mother, Brenda Albright, was in court for every day of the trial’s proceedings, saying she wouldn’t rest until she got justice for her son.

The case went to the jury Wednesday afternoon. Kenneth Upton and Carl Leedom's trials are expected to begin sometime at the end of June.
