After a 12-month deployment in Afghanistan, 145 soldiers of the 164th military police company at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, returned to Alaska early Saturday morning. They were greeted by friends and family at JBER.

The company is also known as the "Arctic Enforcers." The soldiers deployed in March 2011 to train Afghan police. The stands at JBER's Buckner Physical Fitness Center were packed with loved ones, waiting to welcome the soldiers home.

"You just hope they're okay every single day and wait for their phone call and you know it's tough but we've made it through it and it takes strong people to do it. It's hard but we're here now and they're safe," says Brooke Matheny, as she waited to see her boyfriend Sgt. Lucas Musseau.

The unit served a year in Afghanistan from March 2005 to March 2006 and spent July 2007 to September 2008 in Iraq.
