The Alaska Botanical Garden kicked off the summer season with an event Thursday night that combined art and the beauty of nature.

The flowers are in colorful bloom and volunteers were busy Thursday afternoon putting in the artwork.

Thursday’s fundraiser is one of their biggest of the year. There will be music, food and you can stroll along an alpine rock garden, herb garden or wildflower trail.

The garden showcases the 110 acres of gardens and boreal forest, as well as the talents of local artists who lend their imaginations to the cause of enhancing beauty.

“The artists donate a portion, up to half, and many donate more of the sales of their artwork to the Alaska Botanical Garden, We're a non-profit,” said Patrick Ryan with Alaska Botanical Garden.

The public can attend Thursday's fundraiser from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The 14th annual garden fair follows this Saturday and Sunday, and will have music, vendors and many more events for kids and families.
