National Prescription Collection Day

National Prescription Collection Day (September 28, 2012)

On Sep. 29, there will be several collection points people can anonymously dispose of expired prescription drugs in Alaska.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has teamed up with other state and federal agencies to curb the growing problem of accidental overdose, poisoning, and abuse.

The event takes place Saturday, Sep. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at 34 locations across the state.

The Anchorage locations will be:

Carrs, 600 East Northern Lights Blvd
Carrs, 1650 West Northern Lights Blvd
Providence Pharmacy, 3300 Providence Drive Entrance
Fred Meyer, 7701 Debarr Road
Fred Meyer, 2300 Abbott Road
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital, 5955 Zeamer Avenue

“Every year the amount of collected material is increasing.  This means an even greater amount of drugs will be disposed of properly rather than entering our environment,” said Acting Environmental Health Director, Elaine Busse Floyd. “We look forward to another successful event and hope this trend will continue into the future.”
