Let Every Woman Know - Alaska, an Anchorage-based group of volunteers, is hosting an awareness weekend dedicated to arts, community, education, and awareness of gynecologic cancer. The events start Friday, Februrary 1, and continue until February 3.
The events include an art showcase, a workshop, and two musical performances.
The art showcase begins February 1 and runs throughout the entire weekend. Works by artists and friends whose lives have been touched by cancer will be presented at various downtown and Spenard Road locations.
On Saturday, February 2, The Foundation for Women's Cancer will present a "Gynecologic Cancer Survivors Course," which will be an inspirational workshop for cancer survivors, family and friends. The workshop runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Midtown.
Later in the night, on February 2, the Rhythm Heals Concert begins. The show starts at 9 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m. at Tap Root. The headlining band is No Evidence of Disease (N.E.D.), a nationally recognized "rock 'n roll" band made up of six women cancer surgeons. Alaska's own cancer surgeon, Dr. Joanie Hope, is the vocal lead.
The weekend will come to a close with the N.E.D. Film Premiere and Musical Tribute. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub and will run until 10 p.m. Let Every Woman Know - Alaska will premiere a documentary film and a live N.E.D. concert will follow with a special tribute to Alaskan women affected by gynecologic cancers.
