Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan is pushing for a rewrite of the city labor laws, but union leaders are pushing back.
The Anchorage Daily News says union leaders held a news conference on Monday in which they condemned the mayor's proposals and said they have not had input into the plan. The leaders represent eight unions that represent municipal employees.
Sullivan's plan would curb union powers, limit raises and eliminate the right to strike, as well as other provisions eliminating merit raises and longevity pay.
The mayor's plan is scheduled to be introduced Tuesday at the Anchorage Assembly meeting. It is up for a public hearing and a possible vote Feb. 26.
Unions are planning a rally at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Loussac Library where the Assembly meets.
