Anchorage police say they have shot and wounded a man during a routine traffic stop Sunday evening.
Police say the officer-involved shooting occured just after 7 p.m. downtown, between 11th and 12th Avenue on Denali Street.
During the stop, officials say the officer ran a check on all three people inside the stopped Chevy Blazer.
"One of the occupants was found to have a warrant out for his arrest and a back-up officer was called," said APD Deputy Chief Steve Hebbe.
APD says upon approaching the vehicle a male passenger produced a firearm and the officers fired at him multiple times, striking him at least once.
"He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital with what we believe to be non-life threatening injuries," said Hebbe.
The two other people in the car were taken into custody for questioning. No one else was injured during the incident.
Anchorage police are still investigating and ask any citizens who saw what happened to call police at 786-8900.
This is a developing story. Please check back later for updates.
