Single digit temperatures are not enough to scare off hundreds of shoppers ready to pounce on holiday deals.

"Saving money, that's the most important thing this year is to save money," said Tasha Kalolo.  "Make our dollar go the furthest we possibly can."

Kalolo was among dozens of shoppers waiting in line at the Target in South Anchorage.  That store opened at 9:00 P.M. Thursday.

Sears and Walmart also opened on Thanksgiving night.  Kohls and Best Buy open at midnight.

Not everyone was in line to take advantage of discounted electronics and accessories.

"Whipped cream, mint jelly and a Dr. Pepper for my Grandpa," said Brittany Cermak of her Thanksgiving shopping list.

Walmart and Target have been criticized by some for opening on Thanksgiving night, out of concern it will take away from employees time with their families.

"Our team members are pretty excited here at Target to come in," said Team Leader Bill Harper.  "We offer a number of options for them including schedule tools to make sure we accommodate their schedules."

Some shoppers started lining up at Toys-R-Us at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, and some wondered if it was worth their time.

"What brought me out here was the 30 dollar free gift bag BabiesrRus.com says we were all supposed to get, all 200 of us," said Marriane Mueller.  "And we're not getting them."
