The Blood Bank of Alaska has an urgent need for O Positive and O Negative blood donors due to a recent decrease in blood collections and in increase in state usage.
"This month we have seen fewer donations and an increase in usage and trauma throughout the state," said Bob Scanlon, CEO of Blood Bank of Alaska.
The Blood Bank of Alaska says they are receiving only an average of 85 donors a day so far this year, but generally, the blood bank sees 100 donors daily.
January is National Blood Donor Month. The blood bank encourages all donors, new and returning, to make three to four donations each year.
