While the holiday season is known for giving there's one organization that says it consistently lacks donations this time of year.
The Blood Bank of Alaska said from around Thanksgiving until after the first of the year blood donations decrease significantly. That's why they are encouraging donors to give blood by offering rewards.
-Tuesday December 11 until December 22 donors at the Dimond Mall location will receive a voucher for a free Auntie Anne’s signature pretzel
-Donors who register to give blood during December will receive a free coffee mug while supplies last
-Pint for Pint! Blood donors who register to donate at Orso / Glacier Brewhouse on Saturday, December 15 will receive a voucher for a free glass of root beer and appetizer to enjoy after their donation
-Pint for Pint, Part 2, Donors who register to donate at the Moose’s Tooth on Saturday, December 22, will receive a voucher for a free glass of root beer.
-Mat-Su Valley Pint for Pint, all blood donors who register to give blood at Mat-Su Valley blood drives will receive a voucher for a free pint glass filled with root beer from Robin’s Landing in Big Lake
-Great Harvest Bread Co. will donate several dozen of their delicious giant cookies to thank blood donors for their time and generosity. These are available at the Main Center at 4000 Laurel Street and at the Dimond Mall, plus at the mobile drives while supplies last.
The Blood Bank of Alaska said a single blood donation of 1 pint can save up to 3 lives.
“It's a wonderful time to give back. 20.03 there are any people in need and we are here to serve our medical centers and people in need so if you have time it's easy it's quick and encourage you to come in an donate," Rebecca Parker said.
To donate blood you must weigh at least 113 pounds, be in good health, and be older than 17, unless you have a signed parental consent form.
