Someone in Fairbanks took a wild ride to bring in the new year.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports a vehicle slid through an intersection early Tuesday morning, crashed through a fence and went airborne after hitting a large decorative rock. The car wound up hitting the frozen Chena River nose first, and then rolled onto its top.

The unidentified driver, a 29-year-old man, initially left the scene and later checked himself into a hospital with injuries.

Police interviewed the driver. They say alcohol was likely involved, but it's doubtful charges will be filed. The accident remains under investigation.
