Severe cold has moved into Alaska's interior, with temperatures as low as 51 below zero.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/AFoe6o) says the lowest Fairbanks temperature so far this winter - 41 degrees below zero - was recorded at Fairbanks International Airport just before noon Saturday.
National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Thoman says a low pressure system in Southeast Alaska began drawing cold air from the western Interior on Friday.
Temperatures west of Fairbanks have been even colder, with a low of 51 below recorded in the Koyukuk River village of Huslia Saturday morning.
In Manley Hot Springs, it was 49 below. Temperatures were 48 below in Galena and 46 below in Tanana.
Thoman says temperatures should begin to moderate slightly Monday night.
