FAIRBANKS, Alaska—
The Fairbanks North Star Borough can continue its wood stove exchange program.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/0bp3IY) says the borough has received permission from the state to continue the program even though it can no longer enforce air pollution regulations.
The borough halted the state-financed program in light of the recently passed Proposition 3. The proposition bars the borough from regulating air emissions from home heating devices in any way.
Borough Transportation Director Glenn Miller says the state is OK with continued spending of grant money on the program. He says so far over 1,000 woodstoves have been removed or replaced, and that has helped reduce air pollution.
