Fairbanks police say the misfiring of a gun may have saved a woman's life.
Police told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/3IqKJB) that the woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted early Thursday by a former boyfriend who turned the gun on himself at the Tanana River dike after it misfired.
Police arrive a short time later and pronounced the man dead. He has been identified as 33-year-old Michael Terrance Williams of Fairbanks. Police have identified the victim only as a 21-year-old Fairbanks woman.
Police say Williams also shot the woman's 28-year-old boyfriend in the thigh earlier in the evening when she was kidnapped. He was taken to Bassett Army Community Hospital and is expected to survive.
