Three families lost their home and several pets died in a fire at an Eagle River 12-plex Sunday afternoon. Anchorage Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Garbe said the fire was reported just before 2 p.m. on the 11-thousand block of Heritage Court.
It started in a bedroom on the bottom floor of the building. No one living in that unit was home at the time. The fire spread to the unit above and an apartment on the third floor sustained smoke damage, said Garbe.
Fire crews cleared the scene just after 4 p.m. No one was injured in the blaze and nine other families were able to return to their homes. Several cats and one dog died in the fire, said Garbe.
AFD is investigating the cause.
