First National Bank of Alaska customers in the Fairbanks and Healy areas are being warned about a cell phone scam targeting their debit cards.
Customers say they received an automated call on their cell phones stating that their debit cards have been "locked" and will not work unless they confirm their personal information. The automated caller will ask the customer to provide their card number and then "press one" to "unlock" their card.
Alaskans who believe they may be a victim of this scam should contact their bank immediately.
According to bank officials, customers should never provide anyone with their personal information or card number over the phone unless they initiated the call.
