A judge says a former Juneau Police Department lieutenant accused of opening fire on police officers in April has until Sept. 28 to notify the court if he plans to raise mental-health or competency issues in his case.A judge set the deadline on Thursday. A lawyer for Troy Wilson had asked the judge to relax a requirement that she give the court timely notification of plans to raise an insanity defense at trial.
Wilson is a 17-year police veteran and former SWAT instructor. He's accused of firing 75 to 100 rounds at police officers and their vehicles using high-powered rifles and handguns. Officers initially responded to his house after receiving a frantic 911 call from Wilson's wife.
