ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
The Alaska Sled Dog and Racing Association is hoping for snow; it says the decision of whether or not the race will take place will be made on February 10.
With very little snow on the trail, safety becomes a huge concern. Officials say the safety of the dogs and mushers is the most important thing.
Fur Rondy officials do have a contigency plan in place, but the potenial loss of one of their premiere events could result in fewer people visiting and less money coming into Anchorage.
