The number of gay and lesbian households in Alaska grew by about 57 percent over the last decade.
Newly released findings from the 2010 U.S. Census show 1,851 gay and lesbian households in Alaska. That compares to 1,180 in 2000.
There were 258,058 total households in the state and growth among the various household types.
The number of unmarried-partner, male and female households grew by about 44 percent, rising from 15,388 to 22,087 last year.
There were 127,558 husband and wife households in 2010, compared with 116,318 in 2000.
The Census put Alaska's total population last year at 710,231.
