ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
Gov. Sean Parnell hosted the last of his five Governor's Family Picnics on Saturday at the Delaney Park Strip. The governor and his administration spent the afternoon serving up nearly 3,000 hamburgers, 2,000 hot dogs, 3,000 salmon burgers and more than 400 pounds of ground beef, used for sloppy joes.Besides food, there was also fun activities for the estimated 7,000 Alaskans who stopped by. Parnell says the picnics are a great way to get out and meet the people he serves.
"Our constitution and our government itself is founded upon the people, and unless a governor has the trust of the people, then it's pretty tough to serve. So I'm just thankful to have that trust and to be responsive to the people in that way," says Gov. Parnell.
Governor's picnics also took place in Juneau, Glennallen, Fairbanks, and Palmer.
