HEALY, Alaska—
After 30 years working at Denali National Park, Claire Curtis is leaving her post as the person in charge of the visitor center.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the 58-year-old Curtis is retiring from the National Park Service. She and her husband, Ken, are headed to Moab, Utah.
Curtis came to Alaska from Colorado in 1982. She and her husband were high school sweethearts who shared an interest in coming to the Far North. Curtis started out as an entry-level employee working at the check-in station at Savage Campground.
Curtis says she will miss the freedom and the sanctuary that the park provides. She says she will look for the same sense of peace in a little Utah canyon or along a river near Moab.
