A 31-year-old Ketchikan man has been sentenced to three years in prison for possessing child pornography.
Ketchikan Superior Court Judge William Carey sentenced William Travis Martin on Monday to eight years in prison with five suspended.
The Ketchikan Daily News reports Martin had pleaded guilty to the charge.
Martin read a statement and said he was ashamed of his actions. He promised he would not be seen in the courtroom again.
Judge Carey said Martin's contrition appeared genuine but that he had committed a crime for which there is substantial community condemnation.
He also said it was not a victimless crime. The judge said the children in the photos "are somebody's children" and a concern for everyone.
