Last minute shopping can be somewhat chaotic, there are lots of deals, lots of people and little time.

It is the kind of situation that criminals are looking for. The Better Business Bureau said people need to take caution so they don't end up a victim of theft or credit card fraud.

"This time of year, it's especially important to know your surrounding, know the situation you're in," said BBB Alaska Public Relations Manager Adam Harkness.

While your shopping list may have a lot of items or just a few, one thing the BBB recommends is keeping a close eye on your credit card from the second you take it out of your wallet.

Cartoonist Chad Carpenter sells his work at a stand in the Sears Mall. He said often times people forget to take their debit or credit card after a purchase. “I try and make sure as soon as they're done with the purchase I'm in the habit of handing it to them," said Carpenter.

The BBB said if you do realize a credit card is missing, then report it to the company right away, so you are less likely to be liable for purchases made on your account.

Its advice to keep those valuables and purchases safe to make for an even happier holiday season.
