A group of state lawmakers wants your ideas on how to make Alaska’s government more efficient and effective.

Sen. Bill Wielechowski (D-Anchorage) is behind the initiative and says he sees plenty of room for improvement.

He summoned a few of his fellow lawmakers together Tuesday to hear ideas.

The committee heard from state agencies, small businesses, and individuals, like a woman who called in from Juneau to complain that it's taking her and her husband several weeks to secure a state mechanical license for their plumbing business.

The process, she explained, has been plagued with errors on the state's end.

Another issue came from the state Dept. of Revenue, which is concerned it does not have enough auditors – the people who keep an eye on the income stream and make sure everyone's paying what they should.

The lawmakers who organized the panel themselves were not immune. A few Alaskans went on the record to say they thought it was inefficient when the legislature went into special session, not once, but twice this year.
