One man was killed on a moose hunting trip in what appears to be an accidental shooting, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Cody Parry, 26, of Trapper Creek and Kyle Strong, 29, had been out near mile 169 of the Parks Highway, scouting for moose.

The two were at Parry’s family’s cabin on Saturday evening, when Strong accidentally shot his 30.06 rifle, after cleaning it, in Parry’s direction. The round hit Parry in the leg while he was sitting on the couch.

Strong attempted to save Parry, using CPR and other life-saving methods, but had to leave to find assistance. He flagged down a passing driver on the highway, who helped Strong bring Parry to the highway, using a fourwheeler.

Trapper Creek EMS responded and declared Parry deceased.

Troopers say no foul play is suspected in the incident.
