There's a new shelter in Juneau for homeless youth.

It's a partnership between Northern Light United Church, the Glory Hole Shelter and Yakoosge Daakahidi Alternative High School.

A state education department newsletter says that, according to school staff, 72 of the school's 180 students were identified as homeless at some point last spring.

The shelter is intended as a safe place for homeless young adults in the Juneau School District. Staff at Yakoosge will refer students at the school who are ages 18-24.
