The Nunaka Valley softball team claimed their first ever Junior League World Series title with a 6-2 win over Canada, Saturday afternoon in Kirkland, Washington.

Nunaka took control from the beginning, when a single from Morgan Hill allowed Taria Page to score in the bottom of the first.

Keeping Canada at bay in the second inning, Alaska managed four runs in the bottom of the frame. Hill got the ball rolling, sending Sierra Rosenzweig home with a single.  Following Hill, Felila Manu nailed a single that would allow Taria Page and Leilani Blair to score.  Hill scored to finish out the inning 5-0.

Canada scored 2 in the top of the 3rd, and Alaska tallied another in the bottom to round out the final score of 6-2.

The champions, Nunaka Valley returned to Anchorage Sunday morning on Alaska Air flight 113.

Nunaka Valley Softball, World Champion, Morgan Hill, said “the excitement is about being the best in the world and all the work that it took to get to the World Series and achieving that goal that everyone has and only one team gets to achieve.”

World Champion Teammate, Taria Page, said “Making history and winning it all is just like overwhelming like going a third time and everything we knew we had some unfinished business we needed to handle and we went there and did our thing.”
