The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Western Prince William Sound area, including Whittier, Seward, Girdwood and Moose Pass and through to Portage Valley and the Eastern Turnagain Arm. The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
According to the NWS:
"A STRONG WEATHER FRONT WILL MOVE TOWARD THE NORTH GULF COAST ON THURSDAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING STRONG EAST WINDS AND PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL TO THE EAST KENAI PENINSULA. WINDS COMBINED WITH FALLING SNOW WILL PRODUCE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH BLOWING SNOW THROUGH PORTAGE VALLEY AND EASTERN TURNAGAIN ARM BEGINNING LATE THURSDAY MORNING."
The NWS says travel will be difficult due to blowing snow, strong winds, and poor visibility. They discourage all travel and outdoor activity.
A blizzard warning was also issued for Anchorage, but it is no longer in effect.
