JUNEAU, Alaska—
A long-time Fairbanks District Court judge has been promoted.
Gov. Sean Parnell says he has appointed Judge Jane Kauvar to a Superior Court seat.Kauvar is a former prosecutor and defense attorney.
She was appointed to be a District Court judge in 1981
She has worked as a temporarily Superior Court Judge in Fairbanks, Kenai, and Bethel and she served as the Fairbanks Juvenile Treatment Court judge.
Her current duties include training magistrates.
Parnell says in an announcement that Kauvar has been a strong servant in the Fairbanks courtroom.
Superior Court judges hear both civil criminal cases, including felony prosecutions. They also hear appeals of District Court cases.
