Anchorage police say a hit-and-run suspect remains at large after a Saturday afternoon (July 14) Mountain View car crash badly injured a woman.
Update: On July 19, the Anchorage Police Department released a description and photo of 45-year-old Walter Campbell, the hit-and-run suspect connected with the crash.
APD describe Campbell as an African-American male, 6’1”, 215 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on Campbell’s whereabouts is asked to call APD at 786-8900.
The crash happened about 3 p.m., shutting down the 3,000 block of Commercial Drive.
APD Spokesperson, Lt. Dave Parker says the woman was in the passenger seat of the car when she momentarily took her seat belt off to attend to her baby in the back of the car.
That's when Parker says another car collided head on with the car she was riding in.
The woman reportedly was thrown outside of the car and suffered severe head injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where her condition was later upgraded to serious.
The driver of the car the woman was in, later identified as the baby's father, and the baby were both not hurt.
Parker says the search continues for the other driver's car, after a large search involving K9s, failed to find him.
